Marchers should demand Second Amendment repeal, says former Supreme Court justice

I'm not saying ALL marchers last weekend are in agreement with retired Justice Stevens here. I'm not even saying MOST are. But SOME are, and their numbers are growing. Also growing is their comfort in saying this sort of thing publicly. Some of the members of Congress say it publicly too, which I suppose I prefer to being lied to. Some of them (like Keith Ellison) backpedal and even deny saying what is clear on video. And others, like Rep. Danny Davis of Chicago (one of the deadliest cities in the US, despite a total gun ban oh-the-irony) are unabashed in their belief that the second amendment is a "relic", as Stevens believes. But then, he also believes that amending the Constitution to do away with the Second Amendment would be a "simple" action, so perhaps with judgment like that America is indeed blessed that he is a RETIRED Justice...

Senate conservatives fuming over $1.3 trillion funding bill

I always KNEW that, regardless of which party holds the majority, the Democrats are the ones ACTUALLY in control of the Congress. It's almost like Republicans forget why they lose power!! If Trump doesn't veto this budget, the Republicans will lose the House in the fall, Trump will be impeached, and he'll deserve to be. When Chuck Schumer says that he's "excited" about a budget, you know we're going to have problems. If Republicans don't stand for fiscal responsibility, what DO they stand for? Sadly, my worst fears about Trump might have had some merit all along; one doesn't spend long stretches as a Democrat without sharing at least some of their sympathies. Because if Democrats can be counted on for anything, it's spending money...

Obama's former Homeland Security secretary says the 'Access Hollywood' tape overshadowed Russia's 2016 election interference

"I was expecting follow-up from a number of journalists, and we never got that because everyone was focused on the campaign, and the video, and the debate that Sunday." Obama DHS secretary Jeh Johnson complaining that the media did not pay Russia the slightest bit of attention when Trump was given no shot of winning. Diane Feinstein then goes off on Johnson, saying that he didn't warn Americans forcefully enough. As if he controls what the media talks about and how passionately they do so!! There are countries on this planet where the government DOES control what news gets covered and what doesn't. Of course those are often countries where one doesn't even want to visit, let alone live. And it's worth noting that the Access Hollywood story itself was held back a couple days because our impartial media didn't want to release the story in the middle of Hurricane Matthew....

Why Are We Only Now Talking About Facebook And Elections?

Ok, it's a topic I already brought up yesterday, but worth if for the quote below from the former Director of Integration of Media Analytics for Obama for America: “Facebook was surprised we were able to suck out the whole social graph, but they didn’t stop us once they realized that was what we were doing. They came to office in the days following election recruiting & were very candid that they allowed us to do things they wouldn’t have allowed someone else to do because they were on our side.”

Deliverance From Hillary Clinton

"The blockbuster movie version of James Dickey’s novel came out in 1972, when the Clintons and I were young, and made a vivid impression on a rising tide of baby boomers. It satisfied all their biases. A group of cool, modern, rational urban professionals journeyed into the backwoods, only to meet the rest of America—the cross-eyed rapist banjo players. That movie did more to shape the preconceptions of a generation of young Democrats than any other, except 'To Kill a Mockingbird.'"

California High School Teacher On Leave After Questioning School Shooting Walkout

Apparently one is not supposed to debate or question what is settled doctrine. This should frighten more people than it actually will. If folks still wish to believe that yesterday's school walkout was completely student-led, organic, and non-political, this news story is my polite rebuttal. What's not mentioned in the story is if whether this woman is paying for her legal counsel out of pocket, or if the teacher's union is picking up the tab, as they should. In case you're wondering, that would be another "tell"...

Warren rejects DNA test idea to prove Native American ancestry: 'Nobody is going to take that part of me away'

Much of what Donald Trump tweets is irresponsible and distracting. But his constantly referring to Elizabeth Warren as "Pocahontas" only bothers me because he actually gets her nickname wrong. It's FAUX-cahontas. As in, she's not of true Native American ancestry, but she masquerades as one and refuses to apologize for culturally appropriating a heritage that is not hers. We're still talking about all of this because of Trump. And for no other reason. What, you think our media would actually press a Democrat on any veracity of their claims? Heaven knows that none of her competitors next year will dare bring up her spurious claims in the primaries!! Ladies and gentlemen, one of the top contenders for the Democratic Party nomination in 2020...

Police: 2 Students Arrested After Making Separate School Shooting Threats

I blame the media. But it in my usual way. These stories are 100% a media-driven phenomenon. The middle and high school aged generation is one that is utterly obsessed with fame. Practically every kid's show aimed at the 'tween set revolves around kids who are either famous already or are trying to become famous. This generation is eating laundry detergent on web videos so they can get "likes", for heaven's sake!! So now, a few weeks after a horrendous school shooting where we've seen the shooter's blank face countless times and had his name mentioned repeatedly, why are we surprised that we are seeing a rash of these types of stories? STOP SHOWING THEIR FACES AND SAYING THEIR NAMES!!!! #NoNotoriety

New Rule: That's Not News | Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO)

"No wonder fake news resonates so much with Trump fans — because so much of it is fake. It's just nonsense meant to keep you perpetually offended with an endless stream of controversies that aren’t controversial, and outrages that aren’t outrageous — because places like the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed and Salon — they make their money by how many clicks they get. Yes, the people who see themselves as morally superior are actually ignoring their sacred job of informing citizens of what’s important, and instead sowing division for their own selfish ends. Hey, wait, isn’t that what Russia was doing to us? Yeah, it is. And we have to stop both of them from using us as the cocks in their cock fights.” Maher is right once a month. This one will do for March.

CNN's Jake Tapper Calls Out Dems for Their Failure to Denounce Louis Farrakhan

When Donald Trump refuses to denounce David Duke and others like him forcefully enough, it is him at his most cringe-worthy. His clumsiness in denouncing the Charlottesville fiasco was likewise awkward and poorly done. Since he clearly doesn’t put much thought into what he says, this is perhaps to be expected. But eventually, and rather quickly, he gets to the right place and says the right thing. So it is indeed bizarre that it is only Jake Tapper who seems to be calling out Democrats for their deep ties to Louis Farrakhan, a man who is as anti-Semitic as anyone you will ever meet. He’s also a raging homophobe, which is a strange position for someone so closely aligned with elected Democrats. So why AREN’T these Democrats forcefully denouncing Farrakhan’s latest ranting and raving? And why isn’t our media calling them out on it? I know the answer, of course…

Facebook Apologizes For Threatening To Censor The Babylon Bee

Did anyone seriously need a fact-check for a news story about CNN purchasing a giant washing machine to "spin" the news? Get it? Spin cycle, washing machine, spinning the news... have we all lost our collective senses of humor? I know I can still laugh at things. I'm not so sure our friends on the left can say the same... because this is neither the first nor second time that they've fact-checked a satire site. When the Broward County Sheriff Upstaged the Parkland Kids

"If you got all your news from conservative media, you might think the sheriff was responsible for the massacre in Parkland. But Nikolas Cruz did that." May I simply add that if one had gotten all of one's news from traditional media, one might think that the NRA was responsible for the massacre in Parkland. But the shooter did that. If I didn't know better, I'd swear that the writer here is more upset with the sheriff for his callous blame-shifting than he is with the shooter who committed the egregious crime.
